WHAT WE DO

McN2 Consulting offers strategic development, from initial conceptualisation to implementation and maintenance of museum, heritage and archival projects that wish to incorporate digital elements and Web 2.0 technologies. A key aspect of what we do is community engagement in the collection and production of digital heritage resources as well as training and support to develop these ‘born digital’ collections. We also work with museums, archives, heritage departments, academics and municipalities to digitise already existing collections and make them available online.

Our services are divided into the following:

Why McN2 Consulting?

Consulting on digital heritage projects is not just a matter of developing digital resources and hosting a website. It requires an understanding of the contexts and ways in which these resources will be used in order to fulfill the potential of a project. McN2 Consulting has an in-depth understanding of the South African heritage sector and the application of  digital technologies to museum, archival and heritage projects. Many of these are with community organisations and we have experience training and working with people with limited digital skills. Our individual skill sets and experience ensure that we are more than capable of handling every aspect of a digital heritage project.

We use open-source software as we believe in its various advantages. It is very often developed in a public, collaborative manner, which we believe is better as it is constantly evolving, cheaper as it does not require commercial licensing, and is in line with our philosophy of open access to information. To this end, we promote the circulation of information and community involvement, facilitated through new technologies and social media networks such as blogs, Facebook and Twitter.
